Whether you are new to surgery, had surgery many years ago or care for someone who has, we’re here for you. Joining Birmingham IA means you not only become a member of the first UK stoma patient support group in the UK, but you join thousands of others who are looking for advice and support living with an ileostomy or internal pouch or caring for someone who does.

Supporting others has been at the heart of IA since we started in 1956. Our volunteers have a wealth of personal experience and are ready to offer help and guidance throughout the region.

As a member of Birmingham IA, you will:

• Have access to support from Birmingham IA. We are in regular contact with our members, keeping them informed about local meetings and activities, and offer support to members by trained and qualified Visitors.
• Receive IA’s quarterly Journal and three annual copies of the Midlands Bulletin. Both magazines are full of information about living with an ileostomy or internal pouch, information on exercise or diet, latest products and stories of how others have overcome the fear of surgery and live life to the full.
• Be able to attend our annual Information Day, where you will hear presentations by leading healthcare professionals and have access to an exhibition of the latest products.
• Have access to our regular Zoom and face-to-face social events for all members.at a range of different venues across the city.
• Be able to join our Young IA and Internal Pouch social meetings if these are of interest to you.

Membership is open to anyone. Our annual fee is:

• £15 per year for anyone aged 18 - 60 years of age
• £10 per year for anyone aged under 18 or aged 60 years over.

Gift Aid

If you are a UK taxpayer and eligible to Gift Aid, Birmingham IA can claim an extra 25p for every £ you give, to support our charitable activities. Based on current Gift Aid rules that would mean we can claim an extra £2.50 on your £10 subscription (members 60 and over) or £3.75 on your £15 subscription (members under 60).
